Average People-Weeks Worked per Household
This map shows the average number of people-weeks that each household worked. On average, Canadian Households worked 60 person weeks a year. There is considerable geographic vairability. Among the Provinces the work weeks per household range from 50 in Newfoundland and Labrador to 73 in the Northwest Territories. Among major Census Metropolitan areas Montreal marks the low end with 57 weeks, followed by Vancouver with 63, Toronto and Edmonton with 68 and Calgary with 70 weeks. Inner cities, with their higher mix of single person households, tend to have lower work weeks per household. The City of Montreal clocks in at 50 weeks, Vancouver at 58, Toronto at 59 weeks, Edmonton at 66 and Calgary at 69. To see how these work hours are distributed within households consider the map of full time full year workers per non-senior household.
