French as percentage of first official language
This map shows what percentage of people in each area of Montreal speak French as their first official language, which basically means that they're stronger in French than English (as opposed to being stronger in English, equally strong in both, or not able to speak either). This does not consider any other languages that people might speak, like Spanish or Arabic. Dark green areas are the gold standard for learning French. Here, people who are dominant in French make up at least 75% of the population. Light green areas (where they make up at least 50% of the population) are pretty good too. It's certainly not impossible to learn French in the orange or red areas (they still have a lot more French than you'll find in most cities outside of Quebec), but it will require more effort on your part.
