Generation Status

This maps shows the makeup of the population based on generation status. We mix colours based to the proportion of the population that is first generation immigrants (red), second generation immigrants (green) and third or more generation immigrants (blue). The national average is 22% first generation, 17% second generation and 61% third or more generation immigrants. This gives the maps an overall blue tint. Third or more generation immigrants includes the native population in this map. Looking at the provinces we see that Nunavut and Newfoundland and Labrador are almost entirely made up of third or more generation immigrants, with respective percentages of 95.6% and 95.5%. British Columbia and Ontario have the lowest proportion of third or more generation immigrants at 47.1% and 47.6%, respectively. Vancouver shows geographic patterns where first generation immigrants live. In Toronto such areas are also clearly visible, as are areas with high proportion of second generation immigrants.
