Income Tax

This map shows the average amount of income tax paid by income earners in each region. This includes federal, provincial and territorial taxes. On average, a Canadian income earner paid $6,667 in income taxes in 2011. Among the provinces Alberta paid the highest taxes per earner at $9,019, New Brunswick formed the tail with $4,946. Geographic variation in average taxes paid per income earner gets more pronounced the further one zooms in. Around Vancouver general patterns become visible at the regional level, but become much more pronounced when zooming in to the highlight variations within cities. There we observe a clear east-west gradient, with some pockets averaging over $50k in taxes per income earner. West Vancouver also hosts similarly high tax pockets. In Calgary we see a high tax area stretching from Mt Royal along the Elbow down to Glenmore, as well as other pockets. Toronto also exhibits large clusters of high tax areas stretching northward from downtown. Use the search bar, zoom and pan to explore other regions in Canada! Happy Tax Season!
