Median Income Explorer

This map visualizes various median income measures for census regions in Canada for 2020. Select the income statistic that is relevant to the question you are interested in. Compare this to the corresponding map from 2015/2016. 2020 income data was impacted by COVID, StatCan also added 2019 individual income statistics to help contextualize the 2020 data. Zoom out to get statistics for higher aggregation levels, zoom in for a finer geographic split. Especially when comparing incomes across different regions one should pay careful attention the selection of income statistics. For example, the City of Vancouver has a median household total income of $82,000, whereas the City of Toronto sits slightly higher at $84,000. But that's entirely due to the different household composition with Vancouver skewing higher on the ratio of one-person households. Vancouver has higher income when comparing separately for both one-person ($46,400 vs $45,200) and two-and-more-person ($112,000 vs $107,000) households.
