Unacceptable housing
In the 2021 Census Profile release StatCan included the measure of acceptable housing, which is a variation on the Core Housing Need measure. Housing is considered acceptable all of the following three criteria aren't satisfied affordability (spending 30% or less of total income on shelter cost) suitability (not overcrouded according to the Natonal Occupancy Standard) adequate (not in need of major repairs) If one or more of the criteria aren't satisfied the housing is considered unacceptable. Use the buttons to explore how many households live in unacceptable housing based on one or several of the criteria. This concept differs from Core Housing Need in that it includes households with shelter-cost-to-income ratio greater than 100% and does not exclude student-led households or people deemed to be able to afford a suitable and adequate dwelling elsewhere in the Census District.
