Number of household maintainers

This map shows the distribution of households by number of household maintainers. Areas with a high share of person households will necessarily have a high share of single household maintainer households, compare this to the map of map of household maintainers excluding 1-person households. Caution is advised when comparing this to the corresponding map based on 2016 data as the way this question was asked in the census quesionnaire has changed 2016 to 2021. In 2016 this was part of the dwellings question block, and people were asked in question F1 to indicate all of the people contributing to payments for "rent or mortgage, taxes, electricity, etc.". In 2021 this question got asked in the block of questions for each individual person living in the dwelling unit, asking explicitly to select "Yes" or "No" on the question 58 "Does this person pay, partly or entirely, the rent or mortgage, taxes, electricity, etc. for this dwelling?" for each person. This change is plausibly responsible to the large drop in households with only 1 household maintainer 2016 to 2021.
