Immigrants
This map shows the proportion of people who are immigrants. In Canada 23.0% of the population in private households in 2021 were immigrants, additionally another 2.5% were non-permanent residents. At the provincial level Ontario had the highest share of immigrants at 30%, closely followed by BC at 29%. Newfoundland and Labrador had the lowest share at 2.8%, Nunavut was the next-lowest at 3.2%. While Metro Toronto was the metro area with the highest share of immigrants at 46.6%, followed by Metro Vancouver at 41.8%, at the city level Richmond, BC beats out Markham, ON with shares of 60.3% and 58.6%, respectively.
