Occupation groups
The map shows the proportion of workers by broad occupation group. It groups the National Occupational Classification (NOC) 2021 classifications into three groups and colours each area based on the prevalence of these occupation groups: Management, Business, and Science Legislative and senior management occupations Business, finance and administration occupations Natural and applied sciences and related occupations Health, Education, and Culture Health occupations Occupations in education, law and social, community and government services Occupations in art, culture, recreation and sport Sales, Trades, Resources, and Manufacturing Sales and service occupations Trades, transport and equipment operators and related occupations Natural resources, agriculture and related production occupations Occupations in manufacturing and utilities Canada wide almost half of all occupations (49.2%) were in ales, Trades, Resources, and Manufacturing, with the other two roughly splitting the rest (Management, Business, Science at 27.3% and Health, Education, Culture at 23.5%). Metro areas display interesting spatial patterns of where people of these occupation groups cluster, in Ottawa-Gatieneau Health, Education, Culture jobs cluster near the centre and Management, Business, Science are more prevalent in the suburbs. In Toronto Management, Business, Science also cluster in in some of the outer suburbs, but have an additional strong cluster downtown. In Vancouver we see strong concentration of Health, Education, Culture occupations on the west side toward UBC, with higher prevalence of occupations in Management, Business, Science in West Vancouver and parts of Downtown. Occupations in Sales, Trades, Resources, Manufacturing cluster in the south-western part of the City of Vancouver, and show up very strongly in suburbs like Surrey.
