This map shows the share of the population in private households that has Canadian citizenship. Overall in Canada, the 2021 Canadian census found that 91.2% of the population in private households held Canadian citizenship, with the share being highest in Nunavut at 98.9% and lowest in BC at 88.7%. The share of Citizens is generally higher in rural areas. Vancouver is the metropolitan area with the lowest share of citizens at 83.6%, followed by Toronto at 84.7% and Winnipeg at 87.3%. Of cities with at least 100k people Brampton had the lowest share of Canadian citizens at 78.9%, followed by Burnaby and Surrey with 79.6% and 79.8%, respectively. Compare this to the map of the share of the population that are immigrants, some of which have become Canadian citizens while others haven't and are permanent residents of Canada, with non-permanent residents adding to this.
