Non-family individuals vs 1-person households

This map shows the ratio of non-family individuals over 1-person households. Non-family individuals is a rough proxy for people who might want to live in a one-person household. This excludes couples, lone parents with their children, and more broadly any children living with parents. Adult children living with parents may also want to live on their own, but are not included here. A ratio of 1 means that every person not in a census family lives on their own, a ratio of 2 means that there are twice as many unattached individuals than 1-person households. At the metro level ratios range between 1.2 for Québec City, 1.4 in Montréal, 1.7 for Edmonton , Calgary and Vancouver and 1.9 in Toronto.
