Renter Households
This map shows the percentage of households that are renting. Compare this to the corresponding map based on 2006 data. In the City of Vancouver 51.5% of the population rented in 2011, down from 51.9% in 2006. In Metro Vancouver the rate was 34.5%. Among the larger Canadian Metropolitan areas Montreal takes the lead with 45% renters, jumping to 64.2% in the City of Montreal. Toronto comes in lower than Vancouver with 45.5% for the city and 31.7% for Metro Toronto. Calgary clocks in at 26.1% for the metro area and 27.6% for the city proper. The following scatter plot gives an indication of the distribution of tenant shelter costs in relation to the proportion of renters in each region.
