People per Household by CensusMapper
Based on Canada Census 2011
This map colours each region by the proportion of 1 person, 2 person and 3 or more person households. Compare this to the corresponding map based on 2016 data.
Overall in Canada, 27.6% of households are 1 person, 34.1% are 2 person and 38.3% are three or more person households.
Among the provinces Nunavut stands out with the highest proportion of 3+ person households at 63.5%. Quebec has the highest proportion of 1 person households at 32.2%, and Newfoundland and Labrador has the highest number of 2 person households at 39.4%.
We generally see that 1 person households tend to cluster in the urban cores, although the degree of segregation by household size varies considerably with Montreal painting a fairly mixed picture throughout whereas Toronto and Vancouver displaying a more polarized pattern.
Use the zoom, pan, search or geolocation buttons to see what the mix of households looks like in your area.
