Duplex Rate

This map represents the share of detached houses which are duplexes, calculated as [Duplex units/2]/[(duplex units/2)+(single detached)]. Since each duplex building counts as two units, the number duplexed buildings can be calculated by dividing the total number of buildings in two. For a city like Vancouver, most duplexes are basement suites. This map would roughly show the proportion of detached houses which have had basement suites added, though this is somewhat confounded because a laneway house is counted by the census as another detached house (which it is, but isn't usually thought of as)
