Chinese as Mother Tongue

This map shows the proportion of the population has a Chinese dialect as their mother tongue. See the list at the bottom for more details. Also refer to the map showing knowledge of a Chinese dialect, or if it is spoken most often at home. There are different census categories to address these more specific scenarios. When zooming in beyond the Census Tract level, numbers should be viewed with caution as statistical rounding and rounding to zero to preserve anonymity may skew the representation. However, zooming in may still provide valuable contextual information. Dialects The census breaks out several Chinese dialects. The map shows people that can speak any language that falls into one of the following categories: Cantonese Fukien Hakka Mandarin Shanghainese Taiwanese Chinese, not otherwise specified
