👻Haunted Houses👻
Stats Canada calls them "dwellings not occupied by usual residents", we say they are haunted and mapped the percentage of haunted dwellings. If usual residents don't live there, who does? We think they are haunted by the ghosts of unaffordability, financial impossibilities and economic desparation, so usual residents have fled. In Vancouver 8.2% of the housing stock is haunted. But if you live somewhere else, don't despair. Other Canadian cities like Calgary, Toronto and Montreal have their fair share, with around 5% of housing stock haunted. All we know for sure is that these were haunted in May 2016. Ghosts are hard to predict, and can fill previously empty areas within the span of a couple of years. For example, the Vancouver Olympic Village was severely haunted in 2011 with 23% of homes occupied by ghosts or other unusual residents, but has since undergone extensive exorcism, dropping the portion of homes held by ghosts and other unusual residents down to 13%. Other areas, like Coal Harbour have remained severely haunted through the past decade with only moderate attrition of ghosts.
