Active Transportation to Work
This map shows the proportion of the commuting population that takes active transportation to work. In Metro Vancouver 29.4% of commuters get to work by walking, cycling or taking transit. In Metro Toronto that number is 31%, 29.5% in Montreal, 27% in Metro Ottawa and 20% in Metro Calgary We observe that active transportation mode share correlates strongly with the percentage of tenant households in each respective region. We also see that areas with lower income tend to have higher active transportation use, but this correlation is generally not as strong. Also compare to the corresponding map based on 2011 data, the walk and bike to work map, the bike to work mode share map or the transit mode share map.
