This map shows the average number of full-time workers 15 years or over that worked all year or part year per non-senior household, that is a household with household maintainer below the age of 65. This gives a reasonable estimate of the average number of people working full time per household, excluding retiree households.

Full-time workers aren't the only workers contributing to household income. For reference we include the distribution of full time vs part time workers.

In this context it is also interesting to compare how income relates to the number of full-time workers per household. We can observe a general trend of increasing household income with increasing full time workers per household, but this trend is dwarfed by very large outliers reflecting a large proportion of part time workers or highly payed workers in some regions.

The map yields interesting patterns how hard-working households in different regions are. Some caveats are that sometimes people continue working full-time beyond the age of 65, and student households do not work full-time. In order to spot border cases where these populations are high we include a scatter plot of the number of non-senior households versus households with maintainer 65 or over.

There is a clear correlation between prevalence of households with maintainer aged below 25 as can be seen in the following graph. This accounts for some of the areas with low proportion of full-time workers, but in Vancouver some expensive areas with curiously high proportion of full-time workers remain. Extending the cutoff to 35 years does little to change that.

Also compare this to the corresponding map only counting full time workers that worked all year. From the standard census data we can't judge the exact extent of how many weeks a full-time part-year worker typically worked, the following scatter-plot may help identify boundary cases.

Definitions

A worker working 30 hours or more a week was classified as full time, a worker working less that 30 hours a week as classified as "part time".

A worker getting payed on a 12 month basis was classified as working full year.
